Hospitality has always struggled to find skilled workers to fill vacant roles, and with the Covid-19 crisis, this became even more challenging. As the pandemic began spreading around the world many hotels converted to Managed Isolation Facilities to support Kiwi residents returning to NZ. As part of this transition process, most hotels had to make redundancies and those staff were forced to look for work in other industries. It was then that many discovered that other industries offer high wages, better hours and more staff benefits.
With the opening of the borders to Australia, hotels are now looking to slowly build staffing levels back up as demand for accommodation increases. The challenge now is enticing previous hospitality workers back into the industry.

Hospitality can be long hours and hard work at times, however this is offset by working with great colleagues who enjoy working together and having fun. If you have been thinking of starting a career in hospitality, then give it a go, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
