Environmental & Social Initiatives

 

Jet Park believes that environmental sustainability is the responsibility of every individual, business and organisation.

In March 2011, Jet Park Hotel in Auckland was awarded the Qualmark Enviro-GOLD Rating, signifying that we have met the high levels of environmental and social responsibility required of this rating.  Since then we have maintained this rating- this is an annual effort to continue reviewing and conducting our environmental and social initiatives.  It will be our vision for the Jet Park Hotel Rotorua property to achieve the same rating over time.

Initiator and driver of the application process, Director of Marketing, Distribution & Sales- Sonja Herrmann states; "When choosing to stay with us, guests can have total confidence they are selecting a hotel who stakes its reputation not only on the standard of it’s accommodation, facilities and customer service, but also on its pro-active and genuine approach to environmental sustainability.”

Nor does Jet Park Hotel regard the project as ‘completed’. New developments in environmental sustainability will emerge and will be incorporated into the Jet Park program. As guests, your contribution with new ideas is not only welcome, they are actively solicited and your participation in sustainable practices equally encouraged:
  • Energy saving by turning off appliances when away from your rooms
  • Rubbish and recycling options

Here are some of the initiatives we have put in place:
  • Lights in all guest rooms turn off when guest exits room because swipe card is used to turn lights on/off
  • Energy efficient light bulbs (LED)
  • Eco-friendly amenity range
  • High quality bio-degradable paper straws in the Te Purū Café 
  • Water saving measures, e.g. flow restrictors, low flush toilets
  • Rubbish/recycling of waste, e.g. recycling food waste into compost, paper, glass
  • Continual ‘audits’ aimed at future reductions in resource consumption + more!

Care for our environment means constant monitoring and improvement where they can be made. Together you, our valued guests, along with staff and hotel owners can make a difference to the future preservation of our beautiful environment for future generations to enjoy.

It is a government and private sector partnership between Tourism New Zealand and the New Zealand Automobile Association. All businesses carrying the Qualmark logo are assessed annually on their environmental performance - with Qualmark Enviro Awards given to top performers in five key action areas:

As a traveller in New Zealand you can also help look after the pristine environment by disposing of your waste in the correct bins and recycling stations.  Walk, ride a bike, or take public transport to see the sights in the local area, support local-made and eat locally grown/produced food.  You can follow the instructions in regional parks- keep to tracks and take your waste away from you.  Preserve energy by turning lights off, run the tap for a shorter time, and keep our waterways clean by keeping chemicals and rubbish away from them.

Supporting the SPCA

Jet Park Hotel owners, Liz Herrmann and John Lateulere have long been avid supporters of the SPCA both in South Africa and here in New Zealand; "SPCA is a cause close to our hearts, and has long been the chosen charity of Jet Park Airport Hotel & Conference Centre."  We began supporting the SPCA the same time as Jet Park Hotel's opening back in 1998. The relationship has gone from strength to strength, and in 2012, became a major 'Bed and Board' sponsor of the SPCA Auckland. With the inclusion of a functional Education Centre at the SPCA Auckland, we are happy to refer clients to their Conference Centre when we are fully booked and vice versa. https://www.spca.nz/about

Women's Refuge

Aimed at helping prevent and stop family violence in New Zealand, Women's Refuge is an organisation for women and their children. Jet Park Hotel is proud to support Women’s Refuge with donations of good used clothing and useful household items and furniture. https://womensrefuge.org.nz/about-us/

Dress for Success

Dress for Success aims to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive.
