7Rotorua is a thermal city in the centre of New Zealand’s North Island. Located the Taupo Volcanic Zone, and has a geothermal history which has formed the volcanoes, hot springs, and thermal activity which can be found in this area. Rotorua lies on the southern shore of Lake Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island of New Zealand. It has a population of approximately 53,000 and about half are Maori. The district is located 60 kilometres south of Tauranga, 105 kilometres south-east of Hamilton and 82 kilometres north-east of Taupo.

Rex Homan, a New Zealand sculptor, has created a captivating piece ‘Pacific Wave’ that can be viewed in the main lobby behind reception. Rex has done a number of artworks for the hotel in Auckland including the Kauri fish wall above.
